Position Overview

The supervisory personnel is competent, fully trained, and have an intimate knowledge of the various tasks, equipment, supplies and materials required to assure our employees perform to the highest level. The Security Shift Supervisors report directly to the Director Aviation Security. "Day Of" reporting to Airport Authority Shift Manager. Responsible for daily supervision of all resources on shift including, ensuring that proper staffing levels are maintained each shift, to coach and train security personnel, to assess their performance and enforce discipline. The Security Shift Supervisor is the professional authority regarding matters of security and will be an advisor to the operational shift manager.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate the Quality Assurance Program which includes Quality Auditing all staff
  • Respond to all airport emergencies under direction of the Airport Authority Shift Manager
  • Investigate all security violations and breaches, interview witnesses and prepare complete and concise reports
  • Complete Quality Auditing of all Security Force security duties and take appropriate action to correct identified deficiencies when necessary
  • Complete performance logs on security personnel and provide coaching and guidance through Corrective Action Reporting and take necessary action to correct identified performance and/or training deficiencies
  • Complete daily Shift Supervisor logs identifying significant security incidents and/or any ongoing issues relevant to Airport Operations and Security
  • Attend daily Airport Operations meetings and provide daily Shift briefings personnel
  • Provide operational support and guidance to the Airport Authority Shift Manager on all Aviation Security related matters
  • Proactively monitoring adherence to Airport Authority programs and policies, and reporting as requested
  • Making the Airport Authority aware of any deficiencies in tenant facilities/operations which may negatively impact the safety and/or security of their/airport facilities
  • Provide ongoing security risk assessments and threat assessments and report potential risks (non-immediate) or concerns to the Airport Authority
  • Verify training/certifications of personnel, and provide reports as required by the Airport Authority
  • Perform service audits to ensure staffing is appropriately in place and performing functions within expectations of the Airport Authority and Contractor
  • Maintain a professional, quality work environment at all times
  • Develop tools and documents to generate Security Month End Reports
  • Generate new strategies and plans for improving employee training documents
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for all security classifications
  • Liaison with the Airport Authority AVSEC Department to develop policies and procedures
  • Implement and establish training programs related to security and contract requirements
  • Implement security / safety improvements that benefit the company's assets, clients and employees as directed by Manager of Security
  • Establish and implement necessary communication strategy and corrective action for the improvement and awareness of security issues across all classifications
  • Management and improvement of security services
  • Take part in Risk and Threat Assessment with the Airport Authority
  • Supervise team of security personnel in discipline and daily operation
  • Familiar with local, state and federal Aerodrome Security rules and regulations
  • Ensure full operation of the access control points and Security Operations Centre
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with tenants, contractors, local law enforcement, community and groups or associations that benefit the company
  • Assist RCMP and other police agencies when necessary
  • Monitor public retail areas of the airport for suspicious / criminal activities
  • Communicate incidents and issues to the day of operations staff in timely manner
  • Conduct regular patrols of airport terminals in search of individuals suspected of criminal activity
  • Identify and remedy potentially unsafe situations and communicate with Airport Operations Centre

Education, Experience & Communication

  • University or College Degree • Additional Leadership / Security Courses / Training / HR Experience is considered an asset • 2-5 years of successful Management of Leadership experience • 2-5 years of experience in managing teams greater than 10 people, preferably in a unionized environment • Security background will be considered an asset • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively mediate and intervene in workplace, client and staff issues.

Special Qualifications & Training

  • RAIC • BST Training • Valid security license • AVSEC Training • Valid Class 5 Driver's License • Emergency First Aid/CPR • Completion of Branch Supervisor training • Excellent computer skills with an understanding of a variety programs • Training and coaching skills • Investigation skills and reports writing

Availability Requirements

Mornings / Afternoons / Evenings on a 12-hour shift

Flexibility to Cover Vacation Coverage for Security Supervisor and Public Safety Officer

Physical Demands:

High energy individual who can multi-task at all times and able to work long hours as required. Excessive standing and walking. Good health and fitness are imperative.

Mental Demands:

Proven ability to problem solve, strong decision-making skills, plan, analyse, organize, exercise judgement, make effective decisions and effective use of delegation and empowerment are important assets to success in this position. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Demonstrate a high level of performance, commitment and motivation. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks under pressure. Demonstrate a high level of performance, commitment and motivation. Strong negotiation skills and strong customer service.
