Operations Manager

Working with our internal and external stakeholders, the Operations Manager oversees all activities for this critical division of Securiguard's Security Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishes security objectives, goals, processes and plans in support of divisional and corporate strategic directions.
  • Assist in the identification and management of security and related risks (including emergency response planning) to ensure best practices, business resilience, and the protection of personnel, infrastructure, and equipment including information security issues.
  • To meet and where possible exceed the corporate objectives in relation to security and risk.
  • Assist in the provision of comprehensive, efficient, cost effective operational and tactical security service and strategic advice to our clients
  • Ongoing review of the non-billable overtime at sites, and liaise with teams to reduce and rectify the causative factors.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training and deployment of guards for all operational sites within portfolio
  • Managing team members in an effective, efficient and economic manner with a focus on personnel retention and professional development.
  • Participates in the Occupational Safety and Health Committee at Head Office and assists with OS&H committees at client sites as needed.
  • Conduct presentations to present clients, and prospective clients on the service offerings available.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager.
  • Responsible for conducting site reviews, writing audit/review reports, reviewing findings, and making recommendations to General Manager
  • Establishes/maintains robust customer relationship
  • Resource and support for planning, developing and implementing security plans, security programs such as Emergency Response and Crisis Management, Physical Security, Information Protection, Incident Management and/or Investigation.
  • Maintains knowledge of complex industry trends, current security issues and security technology and update the Operations team on risk and threats that could impact company business.
  • Responsible to perform annual risk analysis for the Operational sites within their responsibility, including but not limited to disaster recovery plan, critical incident command process and protocol, etc.
  • Responsible for providing leadership, advice and counsel to Operations team on security policy and practices. Identifies exposures and to recommend and develop corrective plans as appropriate.
  • Provides leadership, advice and counsel to all site security team members in achieving current and long rage strategic program objectives.
  • Serves as lead in regards to conducting investigations of significant threats and/or the loss or misappropriation of assets for clients/sites, employee discipline, and as directed by the General Manager.
  • Performs incident analysis and investigation relative to all incidents with advice and closure to all stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements site specific training and development programs
  • To manage and provide effective leadership
  • Ensure resources are appropriately and efficiently allocated to key areas of work and that priorities are always covered adequately
  • Responsibility for budgets; ensuring proper controls and management to achieve deliverables to clients and the company
  • Training needs are identified and processed promptly
  • Use of reporting and tracking for site visits and monthly/quarterly reports
  • Manage all employee relations – vacation/leave/day-off requests, transfers, coaching, deportment reinforcement, discipline, recognition and development.
  • Maintain Security Operations Manuals/post orders and all site directives – with updates annually
  • Ensure that the appropriate level of training is provided for all security staff on disasters; fire and bomb procedures; use of technical equipment and routine security duties. Ensure that knowledge is tested quarterly
  • Maintain the security team training plans up to date for all security staff and to test their knowledge of procedures quarterly
  • Ensure that relevant emergency and incident response planning is maintained at all times with regards to information security.
  • The investigation of security breaches and the disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches as necessary.
  • Maintain record of complex industry trends, current macro and micro level security issues and technologies and provide report to the General Manager on a regular basis on risk and threat that could impact the business.
  • Identifies any operational compliance exposures and to recommend and develop corrective plans as appropriate in line with company policy
  • Provide technical and operational direction for Force Protection, Access Control, Asset Protection, Physical Security, Formal Inquiries, and Facilities security implementation

Educational Requirements:

  • University degree and/or college diploma/certificate in Personnel Management, Business Management,  or Human Resources

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as a manager in an operational setting combined with or in addition to working in the security industry or law enforcement preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years experience in loss prevention, security or law enforcement with experience in large or multiple sites
  • Experience in an operational setting involving the management and supervision of a large number of staff members
  • Security professional with a proven management experience within the security industry, the public sector or armed services is an asset
  • Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and engagement skills
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills, with a 'hands on', problem solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents
  • Experience of writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases and compiling and adjusting duty rosters to meet shortfalls in staffing levels

Special Qualifications and Training:

  • BST required.
  • Provincial Security Patrol, Private Investigator and/or Security Consultant Licenses are required.
  • Certified Protection Professional or Physical Security Professional designation or equivalent American Society for Industrial Security certification standing is preferred.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, have an acceptable ICBC and Driver's Abstract.
