Losses for retail theft have presented a major challenge for business in Vancouver. When it comes to retail theft, criminals who steal often and resell on the black market are known as "boosters", while those individuals who purchase stolen property are called "fences". Fences will often use a legitimate business, such as a convenience store, as a hub for repackaging and or reselling stolen goods.

As a member of our Undercover Retail Crime Team, you will be working in teams of 2-4 patrolling select retail stores: apprehending shoplifters, following prolific offenders, gathering related intelligence on current crime activity. You and your team will be inserted into high traffic areas and will be expected to hit the ground running.

Requirements for this exciting role are:

• Valid BC Security Worker License 
• Ability to hold a BC PI/under Supervision License 
• Valid Advanced Security Training (AST) Certificate (preferred)
• Must be flexible to work in multiple stores/locations
• Occasional travel outside of the lower mainland may be required.
• Must be able to stand for an 8 hour period
• Available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends as required
• Law/Security Diploma or equivalent (preferred not mandatory) 
• Travel within Vancouver Island will be required

Required Skills:

• Ability to complete incident reports on a daily basis 
• Must be comfortable apprehending and detaining shoplifters when required
• Ability to handle difficult situations with a calm demeanor 
• Excellent judgment and decision making ability
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Abilities to arrest, recover and conduct mobile and static surveillance of persons, groups, vehicles and addresses.
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team as operational needs dictate. This is assessed by the team leader.
• The gathering of intelligence from human and open sources to combat ORC and identify offenders and groups.
